Options Desk Competitive Analysis

Options Income Desk · Competitive Analysis

NEXIOS Options Desk against the real alternative — a scanner with no safety net, or a spreadsheet that doesn’t watch your risk for you.

Selling options for income has a well-earned reputation for blowing up accounts — almost always because nothing was watching the position after the trade was placed. NEXIOS Options Desk leads with defined-risk bear call credit spreads and puts the protective machinery first: a live credit-protection monitor, a server-enforced circuit breaker and daily loss cap, and one-click buy-to-close the moment a trade turns — not just a scanner that finds the trade and leaves you to watch it yourself.

NEXIOS Options Desk’s own listing reads “email for current discount price,” one-time purchase, instant digital download. Nothing on this page states a confirmed NEXIOS price beyond what the live product page already publishes.

On risk, plainly: NEXIOS Options Desk supports two strategies — bear call credit spreads, where the maximum loss is defined and capped by the spread width the moment the trade is placed, and naked (uncovered) calls, where risk is theoretically uncapped if the underlying keeps rising. The app flags naked positions as uncapped risk regardless of context; it does not soften that label. The credit-protection monitor, daily loss cap, and circuit breaker exist specifically because this market has no natural stop — they don’t make naked risk capped, they make it watched.
What people actually use today

A screener that finds the trade, or a system that watches it after

Every tool in this space is good at one half of the job. Almost none connect the scan to a live, enforced watch over the position it finds.

A spreadsheet + your broker’s app

No cost beyond what you already pay. Entirely manual: nothing re-checks a credit-retained percentage, nothing enforces a loss cap, nothing escalates a status when a short option moves against you unless you remember to look.

  • Risk discipline exists only as well as you maintain it by hand
  • Good for: very small, infrequent positions

Free broker scanners (thinkorswim, IBKR TWS)

Thinkorswim’s Stock Hacker and IBKR’s own tools can screen for covered-call and spread setups at no extra cost. Neither ships a dedicated credit-protection monitor, a server-enforced daily loss cap, or an escalating risk status tied to the position after it’s opened.

  • Free with the brokerage account
  • Good for: finding a trade; not for being told when to exit one

Paid options-income platforms (Option Alpha, OptionsPlay, Market Chameleon)

Real, capable tools for screening and analytics — genuinely useful on their own terms. None are built specifically around defined-risk credit spreads with a live, position-level protection monitor re-pricing the actual buy-back cost against your real account.

  • Option Alpha connects to tastytrade, TradeStation or Tradier — not Interactive Brokers
  • OptionsPlay is sold through broker enrollment or as an API/advisory product to RIAs, not a self-serve IBKR-connected monitor
  • Good for: broader screening and education, on a different brokerage

NEXIOS Options Desk

Credit spreads given top billing, naked calls available and clearly flagged. The scan and the protection monitor are the same system, re-pricing every short position against your real IBKR account or your own broker-dealer over FIX — live, server-enforced, not a screenshot you have to remember to recheck.

  • Server-enforced daily loss cap, max notional, max consecutive losses — re-checked on every order, not just shown on screen
  • Live credit-retained %, buy-back multiple, and an OK→HARVEST→WATCH→ACT→CRITICAL status in plain English
  • Good for: a trader who wants the exit discipline built into the system, not remembered

Option Alpha’s paid tiers apply when not linked to a supported brokerage. Verify current pricing before quoting a customer.

What it actually does

Protection first, scanning second

Every item below is a shipped, documented feature of the live NEXIOS Options Desk — not a roadmap item. 523 automated tests run on every build.

Credit protection monitor

Every short option is scored OK → HARVEST → WATCH → ACT → CRITICAL from its own live credit-retained percentage, buy-back multiple, distance to strike, delta and days to expiry — plus upcoming earnings and ex-dividend assignment risk.

Guardrails & circuit breaker

Daily loss cap, max notional total, max consecutive losses and max single-order notional are enforced server-side on every order — not just shown on screen — so a client-side bug can’t bypass your own limits.

One-click buy-to-close

Every position row has BUY TO CLOSE, ROLL and STOP actions right next to its live numbers, so protecting a credit never means leaving the screen to look something up.

Credit-call scanner

Bear call credit spreads and naked calls on large-cap names, 90 days to 9 months to expiration, filtered by probability of expiring out-of-the-money, minimum credit, DTE, implied volatility, open interest, bid/ask spread and concentration, with an optional earnings-avoidance window.

Validated pricing engine

Black-Scholes option pricing, validated during development against QuantLib as a dev-only test oracle never shipped to production, prices every credit before it’s shown.

Your own broker, always

Orders route through a FIX connection to your own broker-dealer, or directly to Interactive Brokers. This app never custodies funds or positions.
